2024 FRS Youth Tour/June 3-7, 2024

Farmers Mutual Telephone Company (FMTC) will once again sponsor two local high school students to experience an educational tour of our Nation’s capital this coming summer. Expenses paid during the trip will include travel, lodging, food, and luggage fees. Students will be provided with the opportunity to learn about legislative and regulatory processes occurring daily in Washington, D.C., as well as gain a comprehensive overview of the telecommunications industry. The focus of the FRS Youth Tour is the critical role telecommunications plays in rural America and the great impact policy development holds on the industry.

The FRS Youth Tour gathers 100 high school students from across rural America to Washington D.C. Students will be offered the opportunity to tour our Nation’s capital and its many attractions. While there, students will visit sites such as: Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials; Korean, Vietnam and World War II Monument; Mount Vernon, home of George Washington; the Smithsonian Museums; and many more.

The Foundation for Rural Service’s (FRS) annual youth tour is an example of the Foundation and Farmers Mutual Telephone Company’s involvement with, and commitment to, rural youth. Each year, in collaboration with NTCA member companies, FRS brings rural students from throughout the United States to Washington, D.C. for a four-day tour visiting some of the most historical sites in the nation.

Two students will be selected to represent Farmers Mutual Telephone Company. The Youth Tour opportunity will be made available to high school students who are FMTC Members or immediate family members and must reside in and have a membership in either the Fruitland, Idaho or NuAcres, Idaho FMTC service area, with either a broadband data only line or full-service landline. Students must be age 16 or 17 on the date of the tour.

To apply, students will be asked to submit a picture of applicant, an application questionnaire, a written essay, and a teacher’s recommendation presented in a report portfolio.
